For companies, it’s becoming increasingly important to define clear goals for sustainable development and to pursue them with suitable structures. This is not only crucial to successful long-term business development, but also to making a positive contribution to the community and society. Anchoring sustainability firmly within the company and implementing it systematically in internal structures and processes calls for well-organized sustainability management.
With our Mercedes-Benz Consulting Readiness-Check, we show you where your individual potentials lie in order to qualify and be recognized as a sustainable company.
Are you thinking of implementing overall sustainability management? Or would you like to expand your environmental management? We’ll be glad to back you with our expertise.
In these brief step-by-step instructions, we have summarized how the first steps in implementing sustainability management look.
1. Analyze the current situation:
Where are you now? Usually, more sustainability measures are available than previously assumed. Existing environmental management often forms an optimal basis. From sustainable products to sustainable purchasing, CO2 reduction, environmentally friendly advertising materials, and social engagement. Many companies already have a good basis on which to build overall sustainability management!
2. Define the target situation:
What do you want to achieve? Should sustainability become an integral part of corporate management? Or do you want to communicate your current activities under the topic of sustainability? In both cases, goals and data are crucial. After all, the intended target situation and the set goals show the path forward.
3. Build a team
that drives the theme of sustainability forward and actively raises management’s and employees’ awareness. Once you build a sustainability team – ideally with representatives from all fields – you can get the show on the road! An open corporate culture also enhances cooperation on this inter-disciplinary topic of sustainability.
4. Build knowledge:
Studies show that employees who believe in an issue are more motivated to cooperate and get involved. It’s a valuable basis for inspiring people and making an effective contribution to sustainability. Building knowledge plays a central role in this. But what is the best way to learn it? In a motivational atmosphere with the latest instructional programs, both e-learning and on-site, that are fun to learn from. Determine what information you want to convey to your stakeholders and which communication channels, platforms or events you would like to use.
5. Evaluate goals:
Progress promotes motivation in more than just sports! Set smaller goals on the way to the big one. Setting off on the journey to sustainability means working at it continuously. Most companies already have a good basis for this, such as well-established environmental management that can be expanded to sustainability management, and already provides important data for this purpose. A first step on the path to successful sustainability management.
