When avatars become teammates

What was considered a mere gimmick a few years ago has now long established itself and will continue to shake up traditional training and coaching formats – game-based learning.

In the constant search for new digital formats and tools that will make our training and consulting services even more attractive and innovative, we’ve come up with Quizzer. With an app that provides a fun learning experience regardless of place and time, that expands people’s knowledge and lets them challenge each other in topics like automotive, artificial intelligence or GDPR, anything is possible.

Playfully sharing and expanding knowledge

In the first step, the Quizzer app was put through its paces by 30 test users at Mercedes-Benz Consulting. And it survived the high demands put on it. This set the stage for a further, much larger test phase: use of the app at the 2019 Mercedes-Benz Consulting annual kickoff event, with about 300 users. For this, every business unit at Mercedes-Benz Consulting delivered a questionnaire, including answers, on projects, topics and team characteristics. This brought together a large amount of data to feed the app. Finally, after an internal vote, Quizzer was renamed brain2gain, and its own logo followed. In January 2019, the app saw its successful official rollout at the Mercedes-Benz Consulting annual kickoff event.

Colleagues competed against one another on various topics and tried to move up in the virtual rankings. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Going forward, brain2gain will be continuously developed. More and more requests are arriving to use the app in customer projects, plus ideas on how the app can be further optimized and individually adapted to customers’ needs.

Three questions for …

What was challenging about brain2gain?
The goal. It meant quickly getting into pilot testing, agilely developing the app, and at the same time meeting requirements for internal and external processes.

What is the takeaway for you personally?
I was most impressed at how we were pulling on the same rope – even when we weren’t sitting in the same room or didn’t know each other personally. I had a lot of contact with lawyers, IT experts and data protection officers. It tremendously expands your horizon and gives you insight into what everyday project work means for other colleagues at the company.

What’s coming in the future?
Brain2gain has received an outstanding response and should now be gradually expanded and customized, so that it can be used in as many customer projects, training and coaching programs as possible, with the target groups in mind.
